ABOUT US
Black Jack Rescue of Florida Inc. is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free cat food pantries throughout Pinellas County.
This organization has been created in memory of Jack, a friendly stray cat. Not much is known about Jack’s previous life before becoming a stray in 2020, but her tenacity, intelligence and desire for love and food won over not only our director but her entire neighborhood. During the last four years our director not only fed Jack, but provided outdoor shelter and veterinary visits. She also discovered there are not a lot of resources easily located for low cost veterinary facilities or other resources to help out with stray “colony” cats. Jack had not only human friends but cat friends as well as time went on more stray cats began showing up in the neighborhood and they too enjoyed being fed and housed outside by our director and her neighborhood.
Unfortunately Jack passed away on January 22, 2024 of unknown causes. Which led to an even sadder story for Jack and our director. Jack was found lying in the director’s side yard having passed away. Not knowing what to do the director called Animal Services and they told her they do not pick up dead animals, to either call the sanitation department or bag up Jack and through her in the dumpster for trash pickup. Clearly those options were not acceptable, Jack was not trash and deserved so much more. With tears flowing, our director and her best friend gave Jack a proper burial in the backyard.
Our goal is to research and provide resources so that no one has to go through this frustration to take care of their cats. We will do what we can to ease an animal lover’s burdeon and pain during an emotional time or just trying to feed their pets.
